About this curriculum

Utilizing the well-researched and progressive Jigsaw Scheme of Work as our guiding framework, we deliver a curriculum that is both age-appropriate and developmentally aligned to meet the unique needs of each child. Our approach is holistic, designed to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and emotional intelligence to not only succeed academically but also thrive personally and socially.

Intent

‘With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, and focus.’

Implementation

Jigsaw 3-11 offers a comprehensive programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive, and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

Jigsaw consists of six half term units of work (puzzles), each containing six lessons (pieces) covering each academic year.

Term 1 – Being me in my world.

Term 2- Celebrating Difference (including anti bullying)

Term 3- Dreams and Goals

Term 4- Healthy Me

Term 5- Relationships

Term 6- Changing Me (including Sex Education)

Every piece has 2 learning intentions, one specific to Relationships and Health Education and the other designed to develop emotional literacy and social skills.

Puzzles are launched with a whole school assembly, with each year group studying the same unit at the same time, building sequentially through the school year, facilitating whole school learning themes.

Each lesson is built upon a charter which underpins the behaviour and respect that is the basis for each lesson. The lessons then split into 6 parts, all of which should be included in every session to ensure that the learning follows the optimum progression.

Impact

The PSHE lead will monitor the subject effectively using scrutiny and moderation of outcomes. They will carry out discussions with pupils to see what the children feel is the impact on them of their learning.

Children's learning will be assessed to evidence the impact and it will be tracked to ensure that pupils are building on their skills and knowledge over time and using our ROCKs approach to recall and remember previous learning.

In Jigsaw sessions there are two clear learning objectives for each lesson and activities are included in each lesson to give the children the opportunity to self-assess using simple pictorial resources designed in a child friendly age-appropriate manner.

Four of our Service children were selected to help Plymouth University student Jade McCourt with her dissertation around how transition can affect military families. They each have a teddy and a teddy diary to complete about their journeys to and from school and their day at school. They must include everybody who helped them on that day and the best thing is......... They get to keep the teddies! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

WELLNESS event at Plymouth Life Centre for families on Saturday 8th February! 💙 Families in Plymouth are invited to a free wellness event, which includes fun activities for children and the opportunity for parents and carers to learn more about the local support that’s available to them. Taking place at Plymouth Life Centre on Saturday 8 February from 10.30am to 2.30pm, the event is organised by Plymouth City Council and NHS Devon with support from Plymouth Active Leisure and Plymouth Parent Carer Voice. More than 50 organisations will be on hand to give advice and showcase their services, offering support on a huge range of issues including mental health, physical wellbeing, healthy eating, parenting, finances and the cost of living. There’s a packed line-up of activities taking place throughout the day too, with attendees able to join in with dance, yoga and dodgeball sessions. There will also be demonstrations of wrestling and boxing. The creche will be open for parents and carers to stay and play with toddlers, and there will also be a bouncy castle and inflatables for children to enjoy. Councillor Jemima Laing, Deputy Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “This is a really unique and exciting opportunity for families in Plymouth to discover the huge range of support that’s available across the city. Whether you’re worried about something in particular or would just like to learn more about local organisations that can help you, come along and get involved.” Su Smart, Director of women and children’s improvement at NHS Devon, said: “We are keen to connect families to local support and services in Plymouth and this is a great opportunity to find out what is available. Improving the wellbeing of children and young people in our local community is extremely important to us and this is a good opportunity to connect with local people, networks and organisations.” The event is open to all families in Plymouth. Wow! Young Voices Choir 2025! What an incredible, memorable, musical experience for our Year 5/6 children who have been practising these songs, signing and dance moves since September with Mrs Irvine and Mrs Llewellyn! The final event - a 5200+ pupil choir - took place yesterday in Birmingham at the World Resorts Arena! The children were a pleasure to be with- they sung and danced their little hearts outs and were great company on the two minibuses! ⭐️⭐️⭐️Thank you for the support from several parents who also travelled the distance to watch the spectacular event! 🎶🎵🎤💚Superstars! The children in EYFS have been encouraged to bake some gingerbread people at home to continue their learning about the traditional tale 'The Gingerbread Man'. Hopefully none of them jumped out of the oven and ran away! What a yummy home learning activity! 😋 🫚 🍪

Years 3, 4 and 6 were treated to our first ROCKSTEADY Concert performed by our four bands, with children from Y1-Y6, who have been practising together since the Autumn Term! Parents and family members were invited to watch their child perform too! Incredible talent, timing, skill, confidence and teamwork displayed! We were so impressed and we rocked away to their performances! Look out for the letters for another chance to sign your child up if they want to take part and join a band! Thank you Mrs Irvine for organising this wonderful, musical opportunity! Superstars! ⭐️🎶🎤🎸🎵

We are very excited to have received a Buddy Bench from the @YoungMinds charity! The bench is designed to develop children’s emotional needs and ensure that we are showing kindness during break and lunchtimes. The bench is currently on the KS1 playground but will be shared onto all playgrounds throughout the year! ⭐️⭐️ Thanks also to Marks and Spencer for the recycled items that made it! ❤️
